The Manual of Style outlines a standard for the formatting of articles on UnderWiki. These guidelines promote clarity and cohesion across the wiki and should be followed whenever possible, though situations may arise where exceptions need to be made.
Article naming
- Main article: UnderWiki:Naming policy
Article names follow in-game usage whenever possible, such as Rotworm Skin Swamp Boots. Article topics that do not have an exact match in-game should use sentence case, the first letter of the first word capitalized and subsequent words in lower case, and the singular form. For articles needing disambiguation, disambiguation text is added to the end enclosed in parentheses. See #Disambiguations for more information.

Article layout
Non-article content
Article management tags, such as {{stub}} and {{disambig}}, should be included at the top of an article before the lead section.
Infoboxes
Infoboxes are right aligned boxes at the top of the page that summarize important information about an article. See Category:Infobox templates for infoboxes that can be used.
Lead section
The lead section contains introductory text for the article. This section should provide an overview of the article. This section does not use a section heading, such as ==Introduction==.
The page title should be the subject of the first sentence and be bolded by enclosing it with three single quotes '''article title'''. For example, "A pair of Rotworm Skin Swamp Boots allow for somewhat faster trekking through swamps."
Table of Contents
The Table of Contents (TOC) is automatically added to an article after 3 sections are defined. The TOC can be manipulated by using the following methods:
- Remove the TOC: __NOTOC__
- Left align the TOC: __TOC__
- Right align the TOC: {{tocright}} - This should only be done for long articles that have no infoboxes.
Article content
See #Writing for assistance with this section. The contents of this section can vary depending on the article. Specific layouts can be found below.
Gallery
Images related to the article are added in this section. For images that are part of a collection and defined in the file, the {{Gallery}} template can be used to automatically generate the gallery.
Videos
YouTube videos can be added to articles in this section by using the following template:
- {{#widget:YouTube|id=<youtube video id>|height=<number>}} - The height should be no more than 250.
See also
The See also section is for a bulleted list of internal wiki links to related information not already covered in the article.
References
This section should include a <references/> tag.
External links
The External links section is for relevant links outside of the wiki, such as official site articles or forum posts.
Navigation templates should be included at the bottom of an article. See Category:Navigation templates for templates that can be used.
Defaultsort
Defaultsort is used to change the sorting of an article within a category. For example, an article named The Stygian Abyss will sort within the "T" section of a category. Using the Defaultsort key, it can be sorted within the "S" section.
{{DEFAULTSORT:Stygian Abyss, The}}
Categories
Categories should be added at the end of an article. A full list of categories can be found at Special:Categories.
Section headings
Writing
- Main article: UnderWiki:Writing policy
Capitalization
Capitalization generally follows in-game usage. Titles and formal names of office are capitalized.
Dates
Long dates should be formatted as D M YYYY (26 March 2015).
Quotations
Short quotes should be enclosed in quotation marks " ". Long quotes (more than one paragraph or 40 words) should be formatted as a block with the {{Quote}} template.
Tense
Most articles present facts and therefore should use the present or future tense. Past tense can be used when referring to patch changes.
Disambiguations
- Main article: Wikipedia:Disambiguation
Disambiguation templates can be used to link to other articles with a similar name.
- {{Disambig}} - This is a notice that is used at the top of disambiguation pages that lists several articles with the same name.
- {{Otheruses}} - This is used at the top of an article that has another article with a similar name.
