Position: Programmer

Jeff Kesselman is a programmer for Underworld Ascendant.

My name is Jeff Kesselman. I'm one of those guys whose been around doing game programming for a quarter century and you've probably never heard of unless we worked together. There are a lot of us soldiers like that in the industry.

My time in the Game Industry really begins in the early days of Crystal Graphics where I wrote a portability library for SGI/3DO/Sega Saturn/PSX. Parts of that library shipped in The Horde, Blazing Dragons, Titan and Gex.

Following that I worked in early internet gameplay at the Total Entertainment Network and wrote WAN networking code for games like Duke Nukem3D, Total Annihilation and Dark Sun Online. I was lead engineer and co-designer for Dark Sun Online II, which sadly never shipped.

I spent about 9 years at Sun Microsystrems where I was a performance tuning expert, co-wrote Sun's first book on Java Performance Tuning and was the technical half of Sun's Java Games team. Among other things we accomplished there were the release of some key Java technologies to support game development and the creation of the Javagaming.org developer community. Our most famous user of those technologies and community member today was a guy you probably know as "Notch" ;)

At Sun I also conceived of and implemented the first version of the Project Darkstar game server. After Sun I continued in online game technologies as CTO of Rebel Monkey, Blue Fang Games, and EGames.

Looking glass was one of my two favorite game developers going back to the beginning of my own game playing days and I'm *thrilled* to be working with Paul and company. I've been a Dungeons and Dragons player (as well as many other RPGs) since the little original booklets in 1976. So in many ways, this is a dream project for me.
